Born and raised in Detroit, Terry Canty was a star basketball player at Finney High School. Despite many scholarship offers from colleges across the country, Terry decided to chase the street life, rather than pursue his education. Terry was almost killed from a gunshot wound, causing him to be paralyzed from the waist down and confined him to a wheelchair. OUR HISTORY |
In 2004, Terry’s son and his son’s two best friends were shot and killed on Detroit's East-side. This tragedy inspired Terry to dedicate his life to starting a foundation to give Detroit's youth a fighting chance to succeed in school and life. The Detroit Triple T Foundation, which was named in honor of Terry Canty Jr., Anthony Collins and Taurean Lewis, was created with the goal to help Detroit's youth find positive outlets and avoid falling victim to the streets of Detroit.
